Challenge 19 - Rachel McAdams at the Hollywood Film Festival Awards Gala 2009

Hi everyone,

I was Challenged to do this look (Rachel McAdams at the Hollywood Film Festival Gala in 2009). The challenge was by PeachyKeen19.

I wanted to do this Challenge on a blonde, so I asked Nic to be my model.

Nic is wearing Smashbox, Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light followed by a mixture of Smashbox, High Definition Healthy FX Foundation in L3 and I used the Make Up For Ever, HD Foundation in 155 Medium Beige to create a perfect foundation colour for Nicole. I applied this with the Make Up For Ever Finishing Brush 20N. With the same brush I tapped some Smashbox, Photo Op Under Eye Brightener under her eyes and on the top of her nose. Nic doesn't need more concealer so the lucky girl's almost done. I just added some Make Up For Ever, Super Matte Loose Powder in 012 Translucent Neutral on her face but not under her eyes. I added some bright pink blush on the apples of her cheeks for an innocent flush.

I mixed the White, the Red and the Blue from the Make Up For Ever, Flash Colour Case to create a light purple colour base that I applied on her eyelids with a Sephora - Professionnel All Over Shadow Brush - Small #22. Remember when using cream colour bases that a thin layer works as a base and a thick layer creases like mad. Over this I used GOSH, Effect Powder in Butterfly on her lid and to add a warm crease I blended GOSH, Effect Powder in Rose Gold in the crease blending it up. Under her eyebrows I used some Sephora - Colorful Mat Mono Eyeshadow - Mat No. 06 (matte white) Item # 936310 with my "new" Illamasqua - Blending Brush 1 adding a slight highlight here. Even though Rachel isn't wearing any eyeliner, on Nic's eyes I felt like adding this and I also felt like adding some lashes. I got the gold H&M lashes to place on the eyeline I drew ( Stila - Smudge Pot in Jet Black and my Smashbox - Arced Liner Brush no. 21 I drew the line on the inside of her eyes a little thicker, to make her eyes look closer together). The lashglue that comes with the lashes is HORRIBLE! The lashes came off in 5 minutes :( . Nic is wearing Rimmel Sexy Curves in Intense Black 003 again.

Peacock Eyes

Hi everyone,

My nails and my sister's art inspired me to do these eyes on my sister.

I used the Urban Decay DeLuxe shadows in Fishnet on her eyelids, Peace on the ball of the eye, Ransom in her crease and Adore on the outer corner and her lower lashline.

The mascara I used on her lashes is Givenchy, Phenomen'Eyes.

Purple Rain

I've been hearing the Prince, Purple Rain song on the radio all day, and I thought I'd do something with it, so I decided on a purple eye. I wanted a little depth on the lashes.

This is the final eye:

Face:
I used Smashbox, Photo Finish Foundation Primer SPF15 with Dermaxyl as a primer, this is a primer that feels just like the normal Photo Finish but it has more anti-aging products in it, so it has more longterm benefits. Over this I used Smashbox, High Definition Healthy FX Foundation in Light L3 which I mixed with my Clinique, Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief which means my foundation is thinner and more see-through. It's starting to be a little more summer here, and that means my freckles are popping up again, and I don't always want to hide them.
With Chanel, Bronze Universal I created more prominent (yet natural) cheekbones) using the Sephora Brand - Professionnel Platinum Stippling Brush no. 44.
Because the foundation is very see through, I need a little more concealing for under my eyes, this means Smashbox, Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer in no. 2 with the Smashbox, Concealer Brush followed by powder (only under my eyes to set the concealer) with Make Up For Ever - HD Invisible Cover Foundation.

Eyes:
As a primer on my eyelids I used Urban Decay - Primer Potion. To give the purple powder some depth and something to stick to, I used purple cream eyeliner by Smashbox from the Smashbox, Shadow & Liner Trio called Hot Date. This thrio isn't available as a single, but it is available in the Smashbox, Glambox, Volume 3 - Beauty on the go kit which is on sale now. I applied the cream liner on my eyelid (up to the crease and then fading it out) with the Smashbox, no. 15 definer brush which is my go to brush.
I also used this brush (cleaned on a bit of paper towel) to apply (pressing under the eye in the lashline, on the lid and fading over the crease) GOSH, Effect Powder in Butterfly. Remember to tap off the excess before bringing the brush to your face or you'll look will be ruined with a lot of fallout. If you always have problems with fallout, apply your eyeshadow before your foundation or use a tissue to hold under your eye when applying the powdered eyeshadow/pigments/glitter.
I took up the Purple pencil from the Urban Decay - VIP Travel Size Set of Five 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in Lust to add more depth to the lashline blending this with the definer brush again.
My eyes are practically done now, all I did was add Essence party lashes (using Duo lashglue). Essence is available in most European countries, see http://www.essence.eu/ for the official website. To blend my lashes a little more with the falsies I used my Make Up For Ever, Smokey Eyes in Black.
Remember to brush your eyebrows into the shape you want or add a little colour to them (you need your eyes framed when using false lashes).

Saturday quickie

Hey ladies,

I don't know if many of you are like me, but on Saturdays, I like to look polished when shopping and running errands but still prefer to keep it a quick look because it's Saturday and you have better things to do and if you have special plans for the evening you'll do the makeup better then.

Face
I started by creating a base for my makeup using the Photo Finish - Clear Foundation Primer. This still is my favourite primer and I'm still touching my face more because I love how it feels. I used High Definition Healthy FX Foundation with the Travel Foundation Brush to create a more polished face. To make the face look more flawless I used Camera Ready Concealer with the Concealer Brush. I used HD Powder to set the face and I seriously love this stuff, I might never finish the other powders I have, I seriously love it. It seems to absorb fine lines and I look so much smoother wearing it. I used some Contour under my cheekbones to make my face look a little thinner.

Eyes
On my eyes I used the Primer Potion as a base, this is still my favourite (yes, the UD one is better then the Smashbox lid primer). I used Photo Op over it because I'd forgotten to place it before so I thought no harm done in doing it now. It actually makes the eye look brighter if I use it over the Primer Potion, so happy accident.
I used Honey on the inner half of my eyelid with the definer brush. I seriously love this colour, I thought it would be one of those shades you only use once a month, but I actually use it pretty often, I use all my makeup regularly and hardly ever make a purchase I regret.
I took up the Face Case to use Crash on the outer half of my eyelid (I did blend it into the crease) with the no. 15 definer brush (cleaned on a towel).
Now a quick brush through the brows and curling of the lashes followed by a coat of Bionic Mascara and I'm ready for the day.

Request for gray green eyes with speckles of hazel

Harrisons asked me to do an eye for her. She gave me a list of Urban Decay colours she has and this is the eye I cooked up:

But as usual before you can make a beautiful eye/face, you need a properly prepared eye/face.

Preparation
I start with a scrub with my Cleansing Cushions. I then take the foam off with a little water (waking up the eyes in the process). To close my pores I use a gentle Face Toner.
To moisten and protect my skin I used a Hydra Action eye cream which has SPF in it on my eyes and I started with a Serum on my face before I applied Continuous Rescue Antioxidant Moisturizer. I also bought a tube of Talika, Lipocils Eyelash Gel yesterday, because I want to see if my eyelashes actually look better if I use it. I hope I don't forget to use it twice a day the first month, but you guys will see if there is a difference during the next month.

Face
To create a "flawless" base I used Some Kind-a Gorgeous, this is pretty sheer and feels very light for a cream foundation. Next up was a little mixture of the lightest and the pink colour from the Concealer palette under my eyes with the Concealer Brush. To be honest after placing the concealer I really found out I'd gotten used to the Smashbox concealer which is less cakey and more natural, this hides more, but also creases very easily. To finish this section I gave my eyes a proper base with Primer Potion.

Eyes

I started off by creating a matte even base using the Naked eyeshadow and the no. 21 All over shadow brush.

I placed Maui Wowie (from the Ammo box) on my inner corner working to halfway across my eye with a Large Shadow Brush no. 8. This brush gives you perfect placement with minimum fallout.

The next colour I took up was Last Call from the Ammo box. Using the same no. 8 brush only now cleaned and damp to get a deeper colour. I placed this on the other half of my eyelid and I didn't blend. I let it dry before taking the next colour.

I took up Midnight Cowboy Rides Again from the Urban Survival Kit . Using the dome brush I placed it in the inner corner of my eye, giving it a highlight creating more open eyes and the gold in this will work well with the hazel flecks in Harrisons eye. If you place the brush on your closed corner, you will get perfect placement without brushing the colour and thereby minimizing fallout.

By now the Last Call is certainly dry and I took up the Crease brush with Last call on the tip of the brush only to blend the Last Call into Maui Wowie. I also used this brush and colour to darken the crease.

For deepening the colour at the outer corner I used Crash from the Side Show Face Case . These face cases are no longer sold, but you can get most of the colours loose from the Urban Decay website (and Sephora too).
I used the dome brush (cleaned on a towel) for placement on my outer quarter of my upper eyelid and on my lower lash line fading the colour out after going in 1/3.

The next colour I used was Vert from the Skull Shadow Box . This is a very pigmented matte green perfect for the rest of the under eyelash line (starting a little inward, blending it only at the edge with the Midnight Cowboy Rides again and with the Crash.
This is not like mixing Fishnet with Graffiti, no blue will appear magically, the colours will just blend into each other creating a nice gradient at the middle of your lower lash line.

At this point I was almost done, I used another Talika product I bought yesterday, it's the Eyebrow Extender Black. This has small fibers in it creating a darker and more full brow. Next spring the fuller brow is very much in fashion and I was thinking of thickening them like this without actually plucking any less hairs. Also I've been reading about 3 week extensions you can get placed on your eyebrow hairs and eyebrow transplantations lately, I'm not doing any of that, don't worry, I love my brows, but seeing how much attention is going to people's brows coming spring, makes me try out some things this winter.

I used my Sephora Eyelashcurler and a Max Factor black Masterpiece mascara to finish the eye.
