Profile 1 eye tutorial (August 24, 2008)

I had this picture as my profile picture at the time of this post:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Many of you have been asking about my profile picture, so here is the make-up tutorial for all of you (special shout out to eu). Remember I did add fake eyelashes and changed my eye colour in the profile picture and I didn't do that in this look.

This is the final eye:

To start with this fun look, I need a more summery tan. To give myself a perfect tan, scrubbing is essential.

Products in this picture:

Neutrogena PureGlow, Daily heat activating peeling (loosely translated)

Neutrogena PureGlow, eyecream

Neutrogena PureGlow, moisturiser - with light tanning effect and SPF

Sephora Lips, Nourishing lip balm SPF 15 - "Very sexy"

Preparation
I bought this Neutrogena set in Germany on holiday last January and I love it because it does really give a glow. I used the warming scrub to clean all the dirt of the night off. I used the eye cream first and then the moisturiser because I used the moisturiser on my eyes also (I hate having a bronzing effect everywhere and then white eyes :S). I know this is "not done" but it's my face so I do it anyway :P Remember when using products that colour your skin, to work it into your hairline, fade it properly on your neck etc. to ensure no hard lines show you're using a fake tan. I used a lip balm on my lips to moisturise them before I add colour to them later.

This is how my eyes look without anything on them.

Products in this picture:

Dermalogica, Sheer tint moisture - Medium

Lancaster, Infinite Bronze - Face bronzer (with 15 SPF)

Sephora Brand, "Tricks of the Trade" Immediate Wrinkle Filler

Face
I let the previous layer of preparation sink into my skin for about 30 minutes. I needed a little instant colour on my face, I used another moisturiser (only this time it's a tinted one) and a bronzer mixed together.

Using my fingers I worked the mixture into my skin (and hairline), not forgetting giving my ears a little colour and blending out at the jawline. You need to work very carefully (and not be in a hurry) when doing this because you don't want it to look like a mask or have the colour look fake, so take your time. I used the wrinkle filler over this because I don't want my eye makeup to go in the crease.

Products in this picture:

Benefit, Realness of concealness

YSL, Touche Eclat - no. 2

Urban Decay, Eye Shadow Primer Potion

Benefit, HighBrow

Eye Preparation
Before adding colour to my eyes, I prepared a flawless base to work on. Using the Touche Eclat I took away my dark circles (I slept well so they're pretty minimal today). I used the HighBrow pencil under my eyebrows and blending it out. Prepping my eyelid with the Urban Decay primer. Lastly I added the Lemon Aid under my eye (just under my lash line) using a small flat liner brush and blending it with my fingers. I do this because there will be bright colours there so I need the lash line to be a little lighter. LemonAid is perfect for this because it lightens but doesn't really do anything else, here is a picture of LemonAid:

My eye after the preparation layer:

Products in this picture:
- Sephora, Paradise Island palette (using the mushroom and ocean colour)
- Urban Decay, palette (using the colour Stalker: intense iridescent lilac w/ silver glitter Item # 34600)
- Bourjois, Ombre a paupieres - 24 Turquoise
- Urban Decay, palette (using the colours Envy (not sold anymore, you can use Goddess instead) and Sin: champagne Item # 36310)
- Urban Decay, Urban Survival Kit (using the colours Goddess: midnight blue w/ lots of electric blue microglitter Item # 36370 and Kiddie Pool: ocean blue w/ iridescent glitter Item # 36450)
- Urban Decay, palette (using the colours Midnight Cowgirl: subtle golden-beige w/ gold glitter Item # 36350 and Acid Rain: green w/ yellow gold shift Item # 32000)
- Sephora Brand, Lash Plumper in Black
- Sephora, Eyelash curler
- Sephora Brand Professionnel, All Over Shadow Brush - Large no. 21
- Sephora Brand Professionnel, Rounded Crease Brush no. 13
- The Body Shop, Slanted brush
- Sephora Brand Professionnel, Smudge Brush no. 14

Eyes
I used Sin on my brow bone and down to my crease. I use a cream eyeshadow by Sephora under my Urban Decay colours to give them an extra metallic sheen as you can see on these swatches:

I used the mushroom colour at the inner and outer corner of my eyelid and the ocean colour in the middle using this palette:

Making the eye look like this at this point:

The colour on my inner corner is Stalker:

Placing the colour with the rounded crease brush here:

Using the Bourjois colour as the middle corner because it has a golden sheen, I took my cleansed rounded crease brush.

Placing it here (and blending into the Stalker colour):

As a corner colour I used Envy using my slanted brush, I love this colour, but after looking for the number online I saw it's no longer sold, so I added Goddess over it to show you that look.

The left colour is Envy, the colour on the right is Sin.
After only using Envy on my outer corner:

Taking my Urban Survival Kit:

to use Goddess and Kiddie Pool.

Taking the slanted brush again I placed the depth of the colour in the crease as can be seen in the picture. Blending it out all over where Envy was before, using a light hand because this colour is very intense.
The final colour now is:

The colours on my eyelid are now done, next up are the colours on my lower lash line. Starting with Kiddie Pool in the outer corner using the blender brush.

Left Acid Rain, right Midnight Cowgirl.
I used these two colours on the rest of my lower lash line, using Midnight Cowgirl first starting on the inner corner and going in a little bit.

And finally I added Acid Rain on the middle of my lower lash line.

I used the Sephora Mascara on my eyelashes again after curling them first.

Then 20 minutes after I took the pictures the sky was turning blue and the colours of my eye looked different.

Products in this picture:
- Dior. Lip Show Palette - Multi-effect pro lip palette - 002 Pink Couture (Matte and Satin colour)

Lips
I used the matte colour on my lips and the berry on the inside of my lips to give a hint of colour but not over shout that I'm wearing colour.

Scent
Using this tester by Moschino I love as a funky scent

Five colour eye (Monday August 4, 2008)

Strange how the colour of my eyes depends so much on the type of camera and the type of lighting.

This look is good for daywear if you wear it the way I did on the picture, if you use the colours with a wet brush, it's deep enough for night.

I first used Yves Saint Laurent - Teint Parfait Complexion Enhancer (Oil Free) in No. 4 Abricot, to give my skin a fresh natural glow, I applied it with my fingers. Because it's very warm here this summer, this is on hot days the only base I use on my skin because it's very light and lets my skin breath. Next I put on some Benefit Erase Paste in Fair under my eyes to brighten them using a Sephora Brand Professionnel Platinum Eyeshadow Brush #18.

Next I used Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion on my eyelid to keep my colour where I put it.

I started with Benefit cosmetics' High brow pencil to highlight my browbones.

I chose not to place a base under the colours because I was wearing this look during the day, at night I would have put a gold and a (dark) silver colour under the eye makeup.

All the colours I used "hit" each other, I usually blend the colours when I'm happy with the colour placement in the end. I took my Sephora Brand Professionnel All Over Shadow Small Brush (#23) to put the Honey by Urban Decay (Deluxe Eyeshadow - colour is glistening gold Item # 893131) in the inner quarter corner of my eyelid untill just above the crease. I then used Acid Rain by Urban Decay (green w/ yellow gold shift Item # 32000) from the Honey colour to the middle of my eye and just above the crease. I then placed the colour Mary Jane (silvery blue w/ dark undertone Item # 36500) next to Acid Rain to just above the crease and left the outer quarter of my eye bare. The last quarter I filled with Urban Decay's Crash (deep eggplant w/ copper glitter Item # 35400) going up and a little into the crease.

Finally I then went over the place where the colours hit each other with my Sephora Brand Medium Rounded Crease Brush using a small circulair motion to blend the colours at every place 2 colours hit each other. When happy with the colours I gave the waterline a coat of Bourjois Effet Metallise in Bleu clinquant (#54) and then closed my eyes really hard to make the colour go even more into the roots of my eyelashes (trick used by Kevyn Aucoin).

I finished my eye with one coat of Too Faced Lash Injection in Pitch Black on only my top lashes.

I hope more people start using more colours in a beautifull way, it's nice to bring a bit of colour into daily life.

Tell me what you think of this look. If you've tried it, did you like it on you? Is there a colour you'd never use on your eyes?
