I'm not expecting anything....

By CCee · April 21, 2009 · 20 Comments · 94 Views

Hi everyone,

I've just been reading Retail_Therapy's self-interview and I loved reading it. Sometimes people ask me things in PM's or comments, but I thought why not ask you guys if you want to know anything about me, I'm not expecting any huge response to this... but hey, maybe you are dying to ask me something.

I won't tell you where I live, but other then that I don't think there are many questions I will not answer, so knock yourself out, ask me what I just drank (Schweppes), last song I listened to (Alesha Dixon, The Boy Does Nothing), last tv-show I watched (Ally McBeal), last movie I saw (Eagle Eye with Shia LaBeouf), last magazine I read (In Style, US), last book I read (Jim Butcher, The Dresden Files, Turn Coat), last youtube video I watched Pixiwoo, update & facts, last CD I bought (Kelly Clarkson, All I ever wanted), last movie I saw in the theatre (He's just not that into you), last jeans I bought (H&M), last shirt I bought (H&M, linnen powder pink), last shoes I bought (ASOS Premium Leather Platform Peep Toe Shoe).

So ask me (almost) anything... (no math questions please ;) )

Answers part 1 (Ellenora's questions):
1. Do you have any pets?
Officially no, practically yes.
We used to have two black cats, (they died in 2006 and 2007), then when my sister's cat Casper  came to live with us I sort of adopted him (he was a very young cat with a too big illness and he died last year), now my sister's other cat Felix is living with us. He's a healthy 1,5 year old cat who's addicted to the lazer pointer, my tuna, the bubbles in water and lying exactly on the spot of the paper you're desperately trying to read.

2. Favorite YouTube channels?
Well, I actually have a YouTube account, on this I have all my favourites and the channels I'm subscribed too. I started this because people kept asking me where I get my inspiration and how to do certain things. Also this is where I find the products I try out, I wanted to upload a video once but my internet kept dying so no video's by me are on there. You can find me here. My favourite users are Pixiwoo, Petrilude, Kuuipo1207, MissChievous, SarahVictor, Giovannismash, Filthygorgeousmakeup and Pancea81. I also recently found (she's also recently there, hahaha) MakeupByRisa. Another one I LOVE, but not for makeup is JaspersDen, I love watching that puppy grow up!!

3. A rather stupid question but it must be asked--what was your favorite Disney movie as a child?
Pfff, I think you mean the Animation movies right? The favourite would probably be The Aristocats (cats in a movie... HELLO!!!) but that's from before my time actually, so from the 80's my favourite would be Oliver & Company (dogs!!!) and from the 90's it would be Newsies (Christian Bale, even before he was famous I thought he was amazing), Pocahontas or Mulan (strong women!). From this millennium my favourite is Pirates (Curse of the Black Pearl) (Johnny Depp, who else!?), Finding Nemo (I keep thinking of those seagulls going "Mine, mine, mine"), Cars (I love fast cars), Ratatouille (a food movie with animals, nothing's wrong with that).

Answers part 2 (mrsld's questions):
4. Do you ever go out of the house without makeup?
Yes, a lot actually. I like my skin and I have dark lashes naturally, so I don't need makeup daily. I just like to create a whole look so when I have time, I do things that are different then most women do, but I like standing out in the crowd a little. Today I was a complete late 60's early 70's girl with wide trousers, blue sweater, loose curls halfway up, blue eyeliner. Yesterday I was rocking the leather pants with a black Tshirt and high boots and maybe tomorrow I'll be in all white with straight hair and a neutral/nude face. If I read something that inspires me I'll probably fuse that into my look of tomorrow. Today my nails inspired me... yesterday a late 90's Gucci add inspired me... I'm known as a camelion, and I like it that way. But to go back to your question (sorry, I got distracted, I get that a lot ;) ), I do leave the house without makeup at least 3 to 4 times a week. Sometimes I even wear glasses because I don't want to stick my finger in my eye, so I am lazy at times and I am confident at times. And at other times I get my confidence slathered on with a lot of makeup :P .

5. How did you get into makeup art?
My mum used to do her makeup when I was little and I loved to watch and beg for the almost empty containers of blue eyeshadow (Yes, I'm an 80's girl). When it was the weekend my mum let me play around with it but never to school. When I was twelve I was allowed mascara and a grey eye pencil when I went to school and from the age of 16 I was free to do whatever I wanted (she knew I'd never go over the top). When I was younger I got all my confidence from makeup, later on in life I learned that you don't need to hide behind a mask that isn't you, but you can emphasise what you are with makeup. I still remember trying to copy the smokey eye that Kevyn Aucoin did on Janet Jackson (trying to find the book the smokey eye is in.... found it.... I can't scan it for you, but I did take a quick picture, this is from the Making Faces book by Kevyn Aucoin: . He also did other looks for her, like the Design of a Decade CD cover and other jobs they did together. He was on Oprah once, and that made me really interested in him and cosmetics. So I started buying ELLE's and the Allure, that snowballed and after a while every time I went to school I came by a magazine shop and almost every day I bought one. After a while I was broke and I had to buy less. So I ended up with a subscription to ELLE UK, In Style US, Glamour UK & US and Allure US. If I find something else that I like I might buy it, but these I actually read from front to back. I still have many pictures on my pc from years of collecting beautiful makeup pictures.
Another makeup artists I really enjoy watching is Patt McGrath, she's amazing and her makeup really has no limitations, it's amazing. I wish that one day my work is half as good as her's is. I've been asked to work as a makeup artist at three cosmetics shops in my life and two nailstudio's asked me to come and work for them when I was younger. I never did though, school usually got in the way. Now I'm enjoying this blog a lot and I love that you make me feel like I'm teaching you something. Also the women and girls (you know who you are) who PM'd me thanking me for a look or asking me to create a look specifically for them are sooo special to me. I started blogging here hoping I'd get one person less afraid of colour and makeup, to help her see that makeup is just that, makeup, if you make a mistake you take it off. There are no rules in makeup, there are only opinions. I love that you guys think my opinion matters, and that means more to me then you'll ever know.

6. Can you come to my house in the morning and do my eyes because they NEVER come out right?
Where do you live? ;) Well, probably not, butttt if you PM me a picture, I can tell you what I'd think would work best on you.

Answers part 3 (tdsollog's questions):
7: How did you find out about TeamSugar?
I was trying to buy less magazines (see question 5 ;) ) and I thought that maybe, there would be sites online that show makeup. So I went in search and also found some gossip sites I loved reading (like I'm Not Obsessed, through this website I found PopSugar. And for a long time those where the only places I could find good (not cruel) Celebrity gossip. One day I was at school and the lecture was pretty boring (sometimes you have that ;) ), so I went to check out places on PopSugar that I always could see, but never clicked on, and I found TeamSugar. I thought "I'll never post here", (I was moderator on a picture forum at the time and that took up most of my internet time), until there was something I did want to reply on and I made an account. The forum I was moderating was slowing down and on April 7th last year (2008) I did an eyelook that I thought looked pretty decent and I wanted to see if people would respond on Sugar and maybe would actually like seeing me do more looks. So a little over a year later and I'm still not very active outside of the BPJ, Challenge Group and my own Life Through a Lens group, but I do lurk around on other places as well on Team sometimes. I love that there are a couple of people I call dear friends on Sugar... I never thought that would happen a little over a year ago. Who knows, a lot can happen in a year, where will I be in 2010?

8. Do you do makeup as your "paying job", or for fun?
Makeup is something I do for fun. I do know a Photographer that has my number in case he needs a makeup artist, but I don't get paid to do this. I wish!! I'd love to write a book one day, take some of the popular looks I blogged about, make new ones and make a book for everyone that has a little of everything, just like the Kevyn Aucoin books did for me, only with the current techniques and products.

9. Do you have a favorite makeup brand? A favorite nailpolish brand?
I have several makeup brands I love and I have separate "boxes" in my drawer for those brands specifically. My favourites are Urban Decay (thanks to my aunt Louise who bought me my first Urban Decay palette), Dior, Smashbox (I don't know how I "met" the brand, I just know that after I got the first Masterclass, I had to buy more and now I'm addicted. I have some Benefit products I love but also some I never use. I LOVE Make Up For Ever, but it's sooo expensive, that I buy in small amounts. I think I have 3 Make Up For Ever products now and I've been craving the entire display for as long as the Sephora has been in my country.
For nailpolish I think I'm addiced to China Glaze holographics at the moment, I sooooo love these! Another favourite is OPI for their classic colour and their lasting finish.

Answers part 4 (Iveenia's questions):
10. Would you rather wear a dress or trousers?
I don't even own a dress, I do have some skirts though, a flowy off white one with gold and silver stripes, a white one with black flowers, a shirt jeans skirt and more. But no dresses, I hate how they feel. I hate how they look on me. It just isn't me, it's too girly maybe.

11. Do you match your nails with the dresses/clothes you wear?
I never did, but sometimes now I do. When I have the time, or if I know in advance where I'm going and what I'm wearing then I might. I don't want to look overly matched though... But sometimes it's fun to actually match everything, from the colour on your toenails to colours of your underwear and on your eyes to the colour of your bag. I like matching the accessories...

12. Would you put a whole pic of yours if you match a look with your outfit?
Probably not, I can't really take a picture of me whilst holding the camera and I'm not a model, so I don't think it would work. I can maybe place what I'm wearing on the bed like a spread. But it would cost a lot of time to actually do that as well, if I'm doing a makeup look (with all tutorial pictures it's over an hours work. Then hair, clothes, nails, shoes, bags etc etc... it would take a lot of time.

Wow, there are actually things people want to ask me

Hm, this is hard. What to ask? I'll provide my answers next to the questions as I figure you can't get something for nothing.

1. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind (i.e. dogs, cats, birds)? I've got a five-year-old Decker Rat Terrier (doggy) named Zena. She's the subject of many a blog entry. She's absolutely crazy.

2. Favorite YouTube channels? I tend to favorite a lot of julieg713's, MakeupbyTiffanyD's and MichellePhan's stuff. I do favorite pixiwoo and panacea and others but those are the main ones as they are closer to my make-up style preference and they really have the kind of tutorials I learn the best from (instructional and organized).

3. A rather stupid question but it must be asked--what was your favorite Disney movie as a child? Mine is most definitely Sleeping Beauty. Beauty and the Beast is a very close second.

Aw, Felix is cute. It's always hard losing a pet; it's like losing a family member.

Haha, yeah, animation movies. The Aristocats is a cute movie. I love Pixar movies (Monsters, Inc., Ratatouille, Wall-E--that was an adorable movie, the Incredibles, etc) but I do admit I'm a bigger Disney 2-D fan than Pixar fan. Oliver & Co was a good movie too. I was born in 1989 so I missed the release of a lot of good movies in the 80s that I love (The Great Mouse Detective, The Black Cauldron). The very first movie I remember seeing in theaters was The Lion King.

Sleeping Beauty was released in 1959 but it's my favorite Disney movie. It's so stylistically different.

"I don't even own a dress" WHAT? You don't even own one dress? I have, I think, six. I wear my two casual dresses the most and that's pretty rare as they're sleeveless. The others are formal pretty much (my 2 Homecoming dresses, my graduation dress from 8th grade that still fits ironically, a dress I got for my cousin's funeral that I ended up not going to & a dress I wore for senior pictures..wait that last one is casual kinda). I have, I think, 3 skirts.

My problem with dresses and skirts is that I can't ever find one in my itty bitty size that isn't a mini or micro-mini (XS, Small, 0 or 1). I'm a bit modest to like just-above-the-knee skirts, I guess. I can always find lots of bigger sizes but never any itty bitty sizes. I wonder if the problem is the same in Europe. I'm starting to get used to dresses and skirts but I still like my jeans. Jeans rule. Eye-wink

Haha, Zena finds a laser pointer boring. She does this interesting head tilt when she hears weird noises though! It's so funny! I have a video in my favorites that is about a Corgi and a Bumble Ball that I use just to watch Zena's reaction. She prances forward, stands with her ears up as far as they go so she has all these cute wrinkles on her forehead right next to my chair, tail up and just tilts her head to and fro. It's so funny as the angle of tilt changes each time!

Ok, another question. How often do you change your nailpolish?
Do you not have problems with the polish staying on your natural nail because you change it so often?

posted by

Lately it's every other day that I change it, simply because I've gotten so many polishes I want to try that I switch it up regularly, but before I left it on for about 2 weeks and no chipping.

posted by
Fri, 05/22/2009 - 6:55am

I guess I will have to buy OPI polishes, because I normally have major chipping by the second day.

posted by

Well chipping depends on many things, how you polish your nails, if you have "oily/moist" nails, if you have your hands in water a lot etc etc. But a great top and basecoat work wonders... Use your normal polish with a base and topcoat and see what happends....

I do use a top and base coat from sally hensen, can't remember the true name of it. I do wash my hand alot because of my job. How do you know if you have oily/moist nails? I tend to have oily skin does that hold true for nails too?

I don't think it has to be connected, but it can be, but it is something that can be helped a little by cleaning your nails with a cotton swab dipped in nailpolish remover, alcohol or vinegar to clean off all oils, lotions, crème, or any other contaminants that might be on your nails. I read online about someone who's fake nails always fall off too quickly and they dehydrate the nails to make them stick, but I don't think that's something you would want to do.
